Description of Language is a level 7 module which is designed to develop your knowledge and awareness of the basic elements of language; specifically Grammar (syntax and morphology); Lexis; Pronunciation; and Discourse Analysis.
The introductory lecture touches on the modelling of English as a language; history of English language; descriptive vs prescriptive grammar; English as a world language; Standard English and other varieties of English; Vocabulary; Grammar; Pronunciation; Semantics; Pragmatics; and Discourse Analysis.
Tasks are given each week and may take the form of articles to read, materials to source and evaluate, or tasks / projects to complete.
