Week 3 (8 February): Organisation and division of the bacterial chromosome (CE)
Week 4 (15 February): Signalling and gene regulation in bacteria (CE)
Week 5 (22 February): Motile and sessile lifestyles in bacteria (CE)
Week 6: (29 February): Host-microbe interactions: symbiosis and infection from plants
to humans (CE)
Week 8: (14 March) Modes of metabolism: chemoorganotrophy and fermentation (CWM)
Week 9: (21 March): Modes of metabolism: anaerobic respiration, denitrification and sulphate reduction (CE)
Week 10: (28 March): Modes of metabolism: chemolithotrophy (CWM)

A practical class will take place in week 12 (8 April, Fogg 1.01), with a three-hour session for each student followed by a post-practical calculation exercise. Marks from the practical report and online exercise will constitute the coursework component of the module (25% of marks).
