Being a successful and effective academic researcher involves more than producing outstanding research and publishing well. In this two part workshop series we will explore what else you need to be thinking about now to give yourself a good start.
The first part of this workshop is this QM Plus module. Participants are asked to review the resources and watch the videos which cover essential information about the UK Higher Education sector such as:
•Research Excellence Framework (REF), Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF)
•The academic funding landscape including UKRI
•Types of university in the UK
•The academic career path in QMUL and beyond
•Developing a good track record as a researcher
•Career case studies of academics
Following the online module, we will meet for the synchronous part of the workshop, we will have a series of discussions covering:
•Types of academic career
•Do I have what it takes to thrive in academia?
•Role models in academia and what we can I learn from them?
•What can I do to enhance my chances of academic career success?
